ADARSH SHETTY

An ardent soccer fan from Dallas who is interested in a career in supply chain management and a passionate reader and blogger who worked in outsourcing in India before studying in the U.S. are IAOP’s first scholarship recipients.

Graduate students Adarsh Shetty from the University of Texas at Dallas and Apurva Sinha from the University of Missouri-St. Louis received complimentary registrations to attend OWS17 based on their achievements.

IAOP developed its scholarship to provide a means for today’s business students to follow a path to become tomorrow’s industry professionals. The association also is talking about plans to form a student chapter.

The two had the opportunity to meet and interact with Summit speakers and attendees. They also were recognized at the awards luncheon during the San Antonio event. Here’s what they had to say about the positive experience and their OWS17 highlights.

Adarsh Shetty

“I am a first-year graduate student pursuing my masters in supply chain management from the University of Texas at Dallas. Currently, I also am the University Relations Officer at the INFORMS student chapter at UT Dallas. I love music and food, apart from the fact that I am also an ardent soccer fan. I reside in Dallas, Texas.  I believe that the main drivers of outsourcing are to achieve innovation and develop better processes with increased focus on core competencies coupled with lowering the operational and labor costs for a firm. On this regard, it is imperative for me to stay updated. I am interested in pursuing careers in the field of supply chain management and its verticals like sourcing, procurement and logistics.

At this point of my career, I could not have asked for anything better than attending the Summit.

I gained insights on the top down perspective of the outsourcing industry. As a platform, OWS17 has helped me get in touch with top industry veterans and build my network, and also learn about today’s most pressing global challenges in the outsourcing industry and ways to overcome them.

I enjoyed attending the keynote presentations along with the educational track sessions. The multiple topics covered by these industry professionals interested me the most. Some of the topics were in the field of study that I am currently pursuing. By attending these sessions I was able to keep updated with the latest industry trends in the field of supply chain and its challenges.

OWS17 was highly effective and has helped me advance a wide range of professional objectives. Apart from the boundless networking opportunities, it also helped me better prepare and make myself market ready as per industry requirements.

I also was more than happy to bring back key highlights from the Summit and share them with fellow students at my university.

I am interested in the plans for a student chapter. I have always believed that in order to grow professionally or keep updated, much more than just classroom education is required. I believe that by starting an IAOP Student Chapter students can stay updated with the latest trends and industry best practices, and this eventually will serve as a platform to fine tune and develop one’s technical and professional skills.”

APURVA SINHA

“I am a graduate student majoring in Management Information Systems at the University of Missouri, St Louis Missouri. I am an avid reader and write my own blog on the train of my thoughts. Data analytics interests me and I wish to make a career out of it after I graduate.

Apurva Sinha

I worked for Accenture in India before coming to the U.S to pursue my masters. Having worked for a company that deals in outsourcing, I am well informed about the flexibility, scalability and efficiency that outsourcing helps to achieve. The amalgamation of different outsourcing companies across the world at OWS17 gave me the opportunity to get to know more about outsourcing and how it is benefitting people and companies around the globe.

I feel that the biggest takeaway for me as a student from this conference was Kaihan Krippendorff ‘s keynote presentation on Outthink the Competition. I enjoyed his comments: ‘We are looking for our fourth option. Just like rocket ships in search of dinosaurs under water! That’s what all great innovators and accelerators do.’ His words that day are deeply engraved in my conscious mind. I want to be different and carve a niche for myself.

Thank you very much for this wonderful opportunity IAOP. It feels great to be a part of a platform like this.

I wish to disseminate my learning experience in the conference to other students. I also would endorse the idea of having a student chapter of IAOP here in St Louis.

Students belonging to all educational domains can deeply benefit by learning from people who have made a mark for themselves in their respective fields. This would not only give students the confidence to interact with people from those industries but also correct guidance to follow their goals.”
